Central Ohio Needs Affordable Homes

The Columbus Metro region is growing at a phenomenal rate. When the 2050 plan was rolled out a few years ago, the prediction was that our region would grow by 500,000 people by 2050; and now we should reach that number by 2029.

With a growing region comes a demand for more housing. 

Program Takes New Approach to Providing Affordable Housing

A group of local academics and affordable housing advocates are working on a unique response to the issue of economic segregation in the region. The plan is to help 100 low-income families move to “high opportunity” neighborhoods, providing rental assistance, coaching, access to educational resources, and other types of support to the families for three years.

Where Central Ohioans Reside Affects Region’s Economic Success

Central Ohio has become a region with some places offering many opportunities – jobs; quality, healthy homes; and high-performing schools – while other areas have few opportunities. The resulting economic and racial segregation are detrimental to the long-term business growth and economic vitality of our region.
